Pre-Tournament

TEAM SIZE

Teams can register 3 or 4 players per team. 5 players is not allowed. Each player must have a parent or guardian’s permission to participate in the event.

TEAM CONTACT

Each team must have a team parent / contact that will serve as the point of contact for that team. Each team must provide a team name.

COACHING

We do not require a coach for each team, just a parent point of contact. In fact, we discourage play-calling and only offer 1 timeout per game. Let’s play ball and have fun!

COST

The cost to register a team is $150.

REGISTER NOW!

Teams must be registered by Wednesday, March 1st. Space is limited, if an age group reaches capacity we will cut-off registration early. We encourage you to register ASAP to ensure you get in!

GAME-PLAY SPECIFICS

1. All games are played to 11 points (by 1’s and 2’s) or 12 minutes (running clock), whichever comes first. If no team scores 11 points before the end of the 12-minute running clock expires, the team in the lead as time expires is the winner.

2. The tournament director reserves the right to change the number of points and/or time limit due to external events.

3. The 3-point line represents the “take-back” line as well as the “two-point” line. Successful shots taken from inside the line will be worth 1 point, while baskets made from outside the line are worth 2 points.

4. The ball will be “checked-in” after any dead ball situation. A “check-in” consists of a defensive player (located inside the 2-pt line) passing the ball to an offensive player (located outside the 2-pt line).

5. Once the ball is checked-in, the offense must pass the ball in to start play. The offense cannot immediately dribble or score. Failure to pass in will result in a turnover of possession. Check-in passes cannot be strongly defended on-ball, but can be stolen by the player defending the player catching the pass.

6. After a made shot, the defending team will receive possession. It is not “make it, take it”.

7. After a missed shot, or any live change of possession, the new offensive team must bring the ball back behind the 2-pt line. The player with the ball must have both feet completely behind the line. If the team forgets to take it back, and scores, the basket will not count and the defending team will take over possession. If the team forgets to take it back, and misses, the ball is live and whichever team recovers possession will need to take it back.

8. If a player is fouled while shooting and makes the basket, the basket counts, and an additional point is awarded for the foul. The previously defending team takes possession. If the player misses the shot after being fouled, the team retains possession, no points are awarded, and the ball is checked in as usual.

9. Jump balls always go to the defense, no alternate possession.

10. Player substitutions and timeouts will be permitted on dead-ball situations. The 12-minute game clock continues to run.

11. Each team has 1 Time-out per game, which is limited to 30 seconds. The team is not required to use all 30 seconds, and the referee must notify both teams when restarting the game. The game clock does not stop during a time-out. Due to a continuous 12-minute clock, no team in the lead can call a time-out with less than 2 minutes to play.

12. Non-Championship Games that end in a tie will play a 1-minute overtime. A coin flip will decide the team that gets the ball to start the first overtime. Additional overtimes, if needed, will be sudden-death, the first team that scores 1pt wins. The team that lost the initial coin flip to start the first overtime will start with the ball.

13. Championship Games that end in a tie will play a 2-minute overtime. A coin flip will decide the team that gets the ball to start the first overtime. Additional overtimes, if needed, will be a 1-minute extra period. The team that lost the initial coin flip to start the first overtime will start with the ball.

14. If the referee rules that a foul was flagrant or meant to cause harm, the player fouled will shoot one free throw and that team will keep possession of the ball. The player called with a flagrant foul will get one warning. A 2nd flagrant foul by the same player in that game will result in disqualification from the game.

15. The referee has the right to make a ruling on any issues that are not covered within these rules.

Playoff Specifics

  1. Teams qualify for playoffs based on their pool-play winning percentage. Our format allows for as many playoff teams as possible.

  2. Some age groups will have first-round byes for the teams with the best record.

  3. If teams have tied records in pool-play, the primary tiebreaker will be point differential in pool-play games. If teams are still tied, a coin-flip will break the tie.

OTHER IMPORTANT INFO

  1. Teams must show up to their court on-time and ready for their game. If we stay on schedule, each team should get about 3 minutes to warm-up before their game. Teams MUST be ready to be play when their game starts … the 12:00 game clock will start whether the teams are ready or not. We will not add extra game time lost due to late teams. We are on a tight schedule to try to get teams as many games as possible.

  2. Teams must start and finish games with at least 2 players.

  3. Any player involved in excessive fouling, continued misconduct, or fighting will be immediately disqualified from the current and future Shamrock Shootout events.

  4. Referees can remove players from games for excessive and/or flagrant fouling. Verbally or physically abusing referees will result in immediate removal from the event, players and spectators included.

  5. Players may only appear on 1 roster.

  6. The format of the tournament will be finalized once we have received all team entries.

  7. No refunds will be given for any reason after the team entry cut-off date (March 1st).
